Dr. Rainer Knyrim is partner of Knyrim Trieb Attorneys at Law in Vienna, Austria. He has dedicated his work to data protection since twenty years, focusing particular on advising Austrian subsidiaries of multinational corporations on all relevant matters of data protection compliance in Austria as well as setting up international data protection programs for Austrian multinational companies in various industries.  



He is editor in chief of the Austrian data protection law review “Datenschutz konkret”, editor in chief of the larges Austrian commentary on the GDPR as well as author of four editions of a practical handbook on privacy law and publisher of a book on the GDPR. He is certified expert for the European Privacy Seal EuroPriSe, co-founder of the Austrian Chapter of IAPP’s KnowledgeNet, member of Privacy Europe as well as academic adviser of the review “jusIT”, adviser of the review “Compliance Praxis” and adviser of the “Austrian IT-LAW Symposion”. He is regularly featured in radio, tv and newspaper interviews on data protection issues and host of several regular conferences and seminars on data protection in Austria. He is recommended as leading individual by Legal 500 and ranked band 1 by Chambers in information technology. He was elected nr. 1 data protection lawyer in Austria in the annual lawyer voting of business magazine “trend” fort he 6th year in a row in 2023. 



He earned his master of laws from the University of Graz and his doctorate of law from the University of Vienna, participating in the Erasmus Program at Paris II University. Prior to co-founding Knyrim Trieb Attorneys in 2017, he has worked with the European Commission, with Faegre Baker Daniels in London and was partner of a well-known business law firm in Vienna for more than 15 years.
