Director - Global Privacy

Amy Yates, considered by some in the privacy profession to be one of privacy’s “OGs,” has been working in the field of privacy since 2000 – not long after the US (and IAPP) started paying attention to the EU’s Data Protection Directive. The importance of emphasizing ethical behavior when providing privacy advice was reinforced by her experience at Arthur Andersen as a young privacy attorney. While Andersen’s corporate malfeasance did not relate to the processing of personal data, the wide ranging and negative effects of corporate misconduct made a strong impact on Ms. Yates’s professional philosophy as she pursued a privacy career.

With the demise of Andersen, Ms. Yates joined an HR benefits outsourcing company (Hewitt Associates) that was later acquired by Aon. There, she became its first Chief Privacy Officer and built its privacy program. Looking for new privacy roles in a profession that had not yet matured required that Ms. Yates be open and creative with job opportunities. For this reason, Ms. Yates worked as a Director of Privacy and Security with Deloitte, the leader of the legal privacy practice at Faegre Baker Daniels (now Faegre Drinker Biddle & Reath), and in-house privacy leaders at some of the world’s most preeminent organizations (McKinsey & Company, Meta Platforms, Inc. (f/k/a Facebook)).  Ms. Yates currently serves as a Director at Meta and leads a legal team that is working cross-functionally to scope and deploy robust global privacy compliance solutions across Meta’s family of apps.
