Jason Weinstein is a partner in Steptoe's Washington office and concentrates his practice on privacy and data security matters, white-collar criminal defense, and internal investigations.



Prior to joining Steptoe, Jason served as a Deputy Assistant Attorney General in the Department of Justice's Criminal Division, where he oversaw the most significant cybercrime, intellectual property theft, transnational organized crime, and gang investigations in the country and helped lead DOJ's efforts to draft cybersecurity and data privacy legislation.



Prior to joining the Criminal Division, Jason served for nearly 10 years as an Assistant U.S. Attorney in the Southern District of New York and the District of Maryland. In Maryland, Jason served as Chief of the Violent Crime Section, where he pioneered Baltimore's EXILE program, which resulted in historic reductions in murders and shootings in that city.
