Lina Ornelas obtained her law degree from the faculty of law of the University of Guadalajara, Mexico, and obtained her master's in law and international cooperation from the Vrije Universiteit Brussel.



For more than 10 years, she has developed her professional skills in the public sector, both in Mexico and in Europe, specifically, in the Ministry of Economy and the State Department in Mexico, as well as in the European Commission.



Ornelas is a member of the editorial board of the magazine Data Protection Review and co-writer of Privacidad y Derechos Humanos 2005, 2006 and 2007, published by the Electronic Privacy Information Center (EPIC). She has also published Protecci+¦n de datos personales en M+¬xico: El caso del Poder Ejecutivo, among several other academic articles in the field.



From 2003 to 2011, Ornelas was general director of classified information and personal data of the Federal Institute for Access to Information and Data Protection in Mexico (IFAI). Currently, she is a member of the Iberoamerican Network for the Protection of Personal Data and the International Association for Privacy Professionals, and general director for privacy self-regulation for the IFAI.
