Dr. Thomas Jansen is a partner in Heuking's Munich office and a member of Heuking’s IP, Media & Technology Practice Group.



Thomas has over 20 years of experience as a technology transactions lawyer. He advises German and international corporate clients across diverse technology-driven industries (IT, Telecoms, Automotive & Engineering, Aerospace & Defense) on all kinds of technology-related matters, with a focus on providing strategic and pragmatic guidance in the creation, acquisition, use and commercial exploitation of technology. He also counsels clients on the intellectual property aspects of mergers, acquisitions, and financings.



He specializes in advising German and international corporate clients on all kinds of contentious and non-contentious technology-related matters, with a focus on privacy and data protection and data security related issues, inter alia advice on international data flows within groups of companies and binding corporate rules; development of compliance programs; technology-related data usages; data protection issues with regard to direct marketing activities; advice on the setting-up and operation of CRM, personnel or other data bases involving personal identifiable information; setting-up of whistle blowing and other reporting schemes; data protection and data security issues in technology projects (e.g. RFID, Outsourcing); drafting and negotiation of respective agreements (data processing agency agreements; agreements on data transfers, binding corporate rules, works agreements etc.); representation of clients towards administrative authorities and in legal disputes. 



Thomas is a frequent speaker at national and international conferences and also author of numerous articles and contributions on data protection and privacy related topics, among others, he is Co-Author of the BITKOM Handbook on BIG DATA. 



For many years, Thomas has been consistently ranked as a leading technology lawyer by Legal 500 as well as by JUVE, the German equivalent to Legal 500. According to JUVE, Thomas is "highly dedicated” and provides “excellent advice”. Thomas has been included in the 2016, 2017, 2018 and 2019 Editions of "Best Lawyers in Germany" in the practice area of "Information Technology Law".
