Brent Bliven (CIPP/E, CIPP/US, CIPM) focuses on intellectual property strategy and transactional matters at Boston-based GTC Law Group. Prior to GTC, Brent was Epidemiologist at St. Luke’s Hospital/ Mid America Heart Institute and Assistant Professor of Medicine at the University of Missouri, where his research focused on cardiovascular disease and diabetes, including coordination of medical device trials and genetic blood-banking. His published research principally focused on patient outcomes following coronary artery bypass graft surgery and angioplasty.



Since joining GTC, Brent’s practice has included assisting clients in privacy law compliance, and developing IP strategies that align with business objectives. This work includes clients in the fields of medicine, telecommunications, biometrics, business analytics, distributed computing, gaming, and publishing. His transactional work includes licensing, data transfer and processing review, M&A due diligence, third-party and open source code review, and analysis of third party data usage.



Brent holds a B.A. and Ph.D. from the University of Texas at Austin, an M.Sc. from Harvard University, where he was a National Institutes of Health Public Health Training Grant recipient, and a J.D. from Boston College Law School, where he was Executive Editor of the International and Comparative Law Review. 



Brent is located in Austin, TX and is admitted in Massachusetts and Texas.
