Global Head of Privacy and Data Protection

Melanie has more than 25 years experience in financial services and is currently a Director with Promontory, providing consultancy services in the field of privacy and data protection. She helps Promontory clients enhance their global privacy and data protection practices, advising on governance strategy and implementation and how to meet global regulatory obligations. Melanie has worked with a number of clients, not only in financial services but across all sectors on multi-jurisdictional research programmes and the practical application of data protection laws.

She was previously Executive Director, Privacy and Compliance Servicesat J.P. Morgan and was instrumental in JPMorgan getting approval for their Binding Corporate Rules in 2009.Earlier in her career, Melanie worked as Head of Group Data Protection at NatWest Bank and Group Data Protection Officer at Fidelity Investments International.

Melanie has an LLM in Information Rights and has sat for a number of years on the British Bankers' Association (BBA) and Association for Foreign Markets in Europe (AFME, formerly London Investment Banks Association) Data Protection Working Groups as well as being a past chair of the European Privacy Officers Network. Melanie also participated in the ENISA Article 4 (personal data security breach) expert working group, is on the Data Guidance Panel of Experts, the UK Data Protection Forum Executive Committee and the UK Data Protection Finance Group Executive Committee.
