Chief of the Wireline Competition Bureau

Matthew S. DelNero is Chief of the FCC’s Wireline Competition Bureau, where he leads a team of over 170 attorneys, economists, and other professionals who work to ensure that all Americans have access to robust, affordable broadband and voice services.  FCC Chairman Tom Wheeler appointed Matt as Chief of the Bureau in May 2015.   



Prior to his current position, Matt served as a Deputy Chief of the Bureau, beginning in February 2014.  During that time he played a leading role in the Bureau’s efforts regarding the nation’s transition to all-IP networks, the development of rules to protect and promote the open Internet, and broadband consumer privacy. 



Matt joined the FCC from Covington & Burling LLP, where was a partner in the firm’s Communications & Media and Privacy & Data Security practice groups.  Chambers USA, Legal 500 USA, and other publications have recognized him as a leading telecommunications and media lawyer. 



Matt received his law degree from Harvard Law School and his undergraduate degree from Tufts University.  He is a member of the Federal Communications Bar Association and the International Association of Privacy Professionals.
