Chief Privacy Officer

Beverly (Bev) Walker, Chief Privacy Officer, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) – Atlanta, GA.

Beverly joined CDC in March 2011 as its first Chief Privacy Officer. Her first challenge- a six year effort- was to obtain financial and human resources, as there was no dedicated budget nor was there staff to do the work. Programmatically, she is responsible for the daily operations of the Privacy program; the development, implementation, and maintenance of policies and procedures; monitoring privacy program compliance; investigation and tracking of privacy incidents and breaches; procurement reviews for privacy impact; privacy training; oversight of privacy impact assessments for systems, information collections; and third party applications.

Prior to joining CDC, she served in similar roles at Amtrak, the U.S. Department of Labor, the Bureau of Land Management within the U.S. Department of the Interior, and the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
