About the IAPP

Kate Smirnova is a Data Protection Officer at a global mid-sized contract research organization with the headquarters in Zug, Switzerland. She has been with the company for over ten years, and deeply involved with the internal data protection program for over eight years now, which is from its very inception to the present fully recognized status.

Kate is passionate about her profession, and believes that the GDPR offered an unprecedented opportunity for the companies to integrate data protection into their corporate core values. She believes in high significance of engaging the staff to understand the benefits of the good data processing practice. Developing and delivering in-house tailored trainings, Kate considers the skills she acquired through her background in Linguistics, Pedagogics and Museum Studies a great support in communicating the ideas of data protection to the colleagues and customers. Born in the USSR, now Kate is based in Zug and often travels between PSI offices worldwide.
