Willy Vanbuggenhout  is Chief Privacy Officer for Johnson & Johnson since  March 5, 2012.  He is  responsible for organizing resources, defining strategy and overseeing privacy officers in all sectors and regions in the implementation of the Johnson & Johnson privacy and data protection compliance programs.  He is a member of the Global Healthcare Compliance and Privacy  Leadership Team and the Johnson & Johnson Compliance Committee.



He began his career at Johnson & Johnson in 1983 in the Law Department at Janssen Pharmaceutica in Beerse.  He went on to hold positions of increasing responsibility, including Vice President of Legal Affairs at Janssen where he led the legal team supporting the Janssen domestic and international R&D and commercial operations as a member of the Janssen Pharmaceutica  Management Committee.  He then became Assistant General Counsel, Europe with responsibility for the Law Department in the region providing legal support to the J&J businesses in EMEA.  In 2002, he was named Assistant General Counsel, Asia Pacific, with responsibility for the organization of the legal support in that region.  In January 2008, he was appointed Vice President of the Worldwide Office of Health Care Compliance and Privacy and also  served as Chief Compliance Officer .



He holds degrees in business management, law and  philosophy from the  University of  Antwerp, Belgium, the Katholieke Universiteit, Louvain, Belgium and the University Sint-Aloysius, Brussels, Belgium.



He is currently chair of the European Working Group of the International Pharmaceutical Privacy Consortium and a member of the Data Protection Working Group of EFPIA.
