Arlan Gates is a partner in Baker & McKenzie's Toronto office and a member of the Firm's Global Antitrust & Competition and Global IT & Communications practice groups. Arlan practices extensively in both areas, including on matters at the intersection of these areas such as online advertising, direct marketing and anti-spam regulation, marketing-related privacy, online consumer protection, social media, communications law, and antitrust and competition regulation, notably in the consumer products, pharmaceutical/health and technology sectors. Arlan is a contributor to Baker & McKenzie's North American Antitrust Newsletter, and serves as a Canadian editor of Baker & McKenzie's LegalBytes, a publication on global developments in technology law. His other publications include the Practical Law Company E-Commerce Practice Manual. He holds a BA (Hons.) from the University of Winnipeg, an MPhil from the University of Cambridge, and a JD from the University of Toronto. He joined Baker & McKenzie in 1999, was called to the Ontario bar in February 2002, and has also worked in the Firm's Sydney office.
