Mr. Achatz been practicing data privacy and security since 2013, and has been a Certified Information Privacy Professional (CIPP/US) since 2014.  He started his legal career at a leading data and analytics company, IHS (now IHS Markit).  While at IHS, he learned the central importance of the data economy in today’s market.  He also began to focus his legal career on data privacy and security.

 

In early 2015, he joined Bryan Cave’s Technology, Entrepreneurial and Commercial group to advise clients on technology transactions and data privacy and security rights.  His aim was to develop his data privacy and security skills under the guidance of David Zetoony and Jason Haislmaier, whom he considered to be best-of-the-best privacy practitioners in Colorado (and nationally). 

His data privacy and security practice involves advising his clients on industry-specific regulations and standards that govern the responsible use, collection, and management of their customers’ personal information.  His experience also includes developing company policies and drafting and implementing privacy- and security-related compliance, strategies, and programs. 

 

In the last three years, he has published nearly 30 privacy-related client alerts and provided numerous presentations for Westlaw, the Boulder County Bar Association, the Colorado Bar Association, the American Bar Association, both law schools in Colorado, and the Colorado KnowledgeNet Chapter, among others.  His upcoming presentations, and interests, include: Data Privacy and Security Issues of Autonomous Vehicles, Breach Response Under the GDPR, and The Law of Identity Management.
