About the IAPP

Mr. Terry Thornley is Spencer Stuart’s General Counsel for Asia Pacific based in Singapore. He is a US qualified lawyer admitted to the Illinois State Bar and has over 14 years in-house legal experience focusing a portion of his role on data privacy, information security, risk management, and compliance.

Terry also serves as the Data Protection Officer in Singapore and serves as a member of the firm’s global Crisis Management Team. In his roles, he sets the direction for the data privacy program in the region, promotes compliance and data privacy through training and policies, works to operationalize privacy by design, and helps protect the privacy of client and candidate personal data.

Terry is a Certified Information Privacy Manager (CIPM) and a Certified Information Privacy Professional/Asia (CIPP/A). He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Management Information Systems from the University of Arizona, he holds a Juris Doctor degree from the Chicago-Kent College of Law and is an alumnus of the Harvard Business School after completing their Program for Leadership Development.
