About the IAPP

Theresa Niland is the Director of Privacy of the Americas region for Astellas Us Pharmaceuticals since 2019. She has over 20 years of data privacy experience, from HIPAA to CPRA and everything in between. Beginning with her work for Blue Cross of Idaho as a Director and Privacy Officer, Theresa managed a team of privacy professionals and an information security team, developing privacy and security practices that led to a streamlined, collaborative approach to access and data protection. She has been recognized twice as Top Assistant General Counsel by the First Chair Committee in 2017 and 2018 and has presented to multiple large audiences on subjects ranging from regulatory enactments to data sharing. 

Theresa obtained her Juris Doctorate from the University of San Diego School of Law and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration with honors, from California State University, Long Beach.
