Leading Innovators Recognized for Exemplary Privacy Programs at Privacy. Security. Risk 2015

HP and the International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP) present Intuit, TeleSign and AirWatch by VMware with the HP-IAPP Privacy Innovation Award

LAS VEGAS – Sept. 30, 2015 – Today, the International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP), the largest organization of privacy professionals in the world, presented its 13th annual HP-IAPP Privacy Innovation Awards to Intuit, TeleSign and AirWatch by VMware. Winners were recognized at the organization’s Privacy. Security. Risk 2015 conference in Las Vegas.

Sponsored by HP, the HP-IAPP Privacy Innovation Awards recognizes unique programs and services in global privacy and data protection in the public and private sectors. Winners integrate privacy in a way that elevates its value as a competitive differentiator and a centerpiece of customer and citizen trust. Nominees are judged from a broad field of entries and selected by a panel of private and public sector privacy experts.

“IAPP members set the standard for thoughtful, well-executed and effective privacy practices, which is why we’re always honored and excited to present the HP-IAPP Privacy Innovation Awards,” said J. Trevor Hughes, CIPP, president and CEO of the IAPP. “Each year, it gets harder and harder to select winners, and that’s a great indication of where the privacy industry is headed. The recipients of this year’s awards worked hard to create complex programs with simple explanations and great results.”

“Privacy is paramount, and HP is proud to sponsor this award and honor those working to implement innovative and effective practices,” said Scott Taylor, vice president and chief privacy officer of Hewlett-Packard. “Intuit, TeleSign and VMware are forging new paths for businesses worldwide, and ensuring that the privacy of their employees, customers and business intelligence is never taken lightly.”

In the large organization category (more than 5,000 employees), Intuit was recognized for its Data Use Guideline Tool (DUG). The internal tool brings its Data Stewardship Principles to life by putting common and complex data use issues and decisions where they need to be made – with the technical development teams. The Data Use Guideline Tool contains a rules engine with over 1,000 entries and covers applicable U.S. laws and regulations, special requirements for financial and tax data, Canada and the United Kingdom.

  • Intuit Inc. creates business and financial management solutions that simplify the business of life for small businesses, consumers and accounting professionals. Its flagship products – QuickBooks, TurboTax, Quicken and Mint – revolutionize the way people manage personal finances, run small businesses, pay employees and manage taxes.

In the small organization category (fewer than 5,000 employees), TeleSign was recognized for its superior privacy culture and Turn It On campaign, which urged consumers to protect their online accounts by turning on two-factor authentication wherever possible. The campaign reached hundreds of millions worldwide through coverage in the Wall Street Journal, USA Today, the Daily Mail and PC Magazine. Internally, TeleSign’s Chief Privacy Officer, Stephen Bolinger, traveled to each of the company’s worldwide locations to conduct in-person privacy trainings for each employee. In the past nine months, seven TeleSign employees across IT security, sales, program management, product management, executive leadership and legal staff have become certified privacy professionals and TeleSign expects to grow that beyond 10 by the year’s end. TeleSign’s entire workforce is well-versed on the company’s privacy policies and how to enact them. The company is also integrating privacy into its products, with regular privacy reviews as part of its product development lifecycle.

  • TeleSign is a mobile identity solutions company that helps customers secure end user accounts and prevent registration fraud, while improving user experience and managing costs. TeleSign delivers account security and fraud prevention with two-factor authentication based on each user’s mobile identity and is driven by real-time, global intelligence, including reputation scoring and device data.

In the innovative privacy technology category, AirWatch by VMware was recognized for the Privacy First program. Privacy First is an initiative incorporated into every facet of the AirWatch Enterprise Mobility Management platform with the goal of developing product features to help organizations comply with privacy principles by default while providing transparency, access, and choice to end users. Features are developed with privacy concerns of both the IT admin and end user in mind, allowing for simple administrative configurations that allow for compliance with complex privacy laws and regulations, all while enabling end users with tools to stay educated and informed.

  • AirWatch by VMware helps an organization’s IT department monitor and manage both corporate and employee-owned (BYOD) devices for security threats, as well as allows the IT department to easily deploy email, applications, intranet browsing and content collaboration tools to facilitate the transformation of business processes to mobile. AirWatch helps organizations be transparent with employees about monitoring of personal devices, as well as simplify the ability for an organization to comply with international regulations, data residency laws, industry programs and best practices.
