IAPP Launches Privacy Core™ E-Learning, an Interactive Solution Designed to Drive Privacy Awareness within Organizations

Privacy 101 Training is Available Now for All Data-Handling Employees

PORTSMOUTH, NH (March 17, 2016) –The International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP) today announced the launch of Privacy Core™ e-learning, an interactive, content-rich and expanding library, designed to train employees who handle data in the essentials of privacy, and drive privacy awareness within organizations. It is a privacy training tool developed by experts in privacy and information privacy training.

“Data is at the heart of what we do every day, in turn increasing every organization’s vulnerability to missteps related to privacy. Unfortunately, a high percentage of these issues are due to human factors,” IAPP President and CEO J. Trevor Hughes, CIPP/US said. “The Privacy Core™ solution has been developed by the world’s most trusted privacy experts to offer high-quality, affordable training that helps minimize the risk of human error among employees who handle data, and to protect a company’s most valuable asset—its customers.”

The Privacy Core™ library’s first data-privacy training course, Privacy 101, is available now. The new training, which consists of three approximately 15-minute units, shows employees why privacy matters, what qualifies as personal information, and how to handle personal information knowledge. Employees will engage in real-life scenarios and come away with practical privacy knowledge that can be applied on the job right away. Privacy 101 is well suited for data-handling staff in a host of industries, including finance and accounting, customer service, IT, health care, education, marketing, HR, call centers, government and more.

The Privacy Core™ library is SCORM-compliant and designed to be delivered from a learning management system (LMS) to allow for efficient administration and auditability. IAPP recommends employees take the appropriate Privacy Core™ e-learning units on a yearly basis, to ensure they’re refreshed on the topics and aware of any changes affecting them and their organization.

“It’s important to foster an environment of privacy awareness so that employees can identify and escalate privacy concerns within the organization,” Hughes continued. “Employees who handle data will learn issue-spotting capabilities to identify data sensitivity, make sure it’s cared for properly and raise a red flag when something doesn’t seem right.”
