IAPP Announces New Board of Directors and Executive Committee Members

Appointees Include Prominent Privacy Leaders at Workday, ZoomInfo, Apple, and Vodafone

PORTSMOUTH, N.H. – March 28, 2023 – The International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP), the largest and most comprehensive global information privacy community and resource, today announced the addition of three new directors to its board for 2023, including Barbara Cosgrove, Vice President and Chief Privacy Officer at Workday; Simon McDougall, Chief Compliance Officer of ZoomInfo; and Erik Neuenschwander, Apple’s Director of User Privacy. Mikko Niva, Global Privacy Officer at Vodafone, has been elected Chairman.

Barbara Cosgrove is Vice President, Chief Privacy Officer at Workday, a leading provider of enterprise cloud applications for finance and human resources. She advocates for Workday globally on data protection matters, champions the company’s global data privacy strategy, and provides oversight over global data protection compliance. Barbara previously served as the chief security officer at Workday. Barbara has deep experience in building and leading international data privacy, ethics, security, technical compliance and HR compliance programs at companies including Kaiser Permanente and PeopleSoft.

Simon McDougall is the Chief Compliance Officer of ZoomInfo, where he oversees how the company collects its professional data and upholds individuals’ rights to privacy. He was previously Deputy Commissioner for the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO), the UK’s independent authority for upholding information rights. During that time, he established new technology policy and innovation functions, directed work in areas such as artificial intelligence, adtech, and competition, and led the organization’s response to data usage in the UK to address the COVID-19 pandemic. Simon also built privacy consulting practices at Promontory, an IBM company, and Deloitte, working with clients in Europe, the U.S., and Asia. He holds a B.A. with honours in English Literature from Somerville College at the University of Oxford, and is a Chartered Accountant.

Erik Neuenschwander is Apple’s Director of User Privacy, in charge of privacy engineering efforts across Apple’s products and services. Erik’s organization supports teams throughout the company to design amazing experiences with groundbreaking privacy protections, delivering features like Intelligent Tracking Prevention and Differential Privacy, as well as privacy-forward services like Apple News and Maps. The User Privacy team focuses on privacy by default, including data minimization, technical limits on data use, application of data protection, on-device processing, and privacy-preserving technologies. Erik has over eighteen years of experience in software technology including roles at Casio, Microsoft, and Apple. He holds a B.S. in Symbolic Systems and an M.A. in Philosophy from Stanford University and was a Teaching Fellow in Stanford’s Computer Science department.
